In its long history, Shell Island has been inhabited by several sapient species. Most studies on these sapient species involve the Huinem, the Toures, and the "shelled folk", though other species have been known to encounter the island.
For the sake of character creation, the sapient species of Shell Island can be considered open species. Artists are free to create characters of these species. The sapient species have been designated as such due to their resemblance to real animal species.
Huinem are a bipedal species of ungulate. There are several distinct kinds of Huinem which resemble different kinds of ungulates, though they are generally believed to be some sort of evolution of an equid or bovid species.
